Carl Bock: Temples and Elephants

Below, a series of images from Carl Bock’s Temples and Elephants: The Narrative of a Journey of Exploration Through Upper Siam and Lao (1884).

There seems to be two styles in this book, one that seems more closer to photographs (like the one above) and the usual looser freer style.  Not too sure if it’s a technique/production thing because the more realistic style is very common in books of this period. 

I love how decked out the donkey is, this is a trader from Yunan.
